Thursday, September 4th was the beginning of my annual girl’s trip away. The highlight of the trip each year is a Jimmy Buffett concert at a new venue – hopefully in a new city. This year, way back in late February we decided Boston would be our destination.
Since I am the leader of the gang when it comes to the traveling Jimmy show, I am the main planner. First we wait while show dates, times, and places are announced and then we vote on where to go. The next thing that has to happen is actually getting tickets. Getting tickets to a Buffett show becomes harder and harder to do every year. Last year there was a six ticket limit per person buying tickets. This year, at least for the Comcast Center outside of Boston, the limit was four. This threw a real monkey wrench into things right off the bat because there were six of us planning to go.
Following is an email I sent after right after managing to get the tickets:
I think my hands have stopped shaking enough for me to type this. I think we got tickets. The reason I am not sure is because there was an unexpected hitch. Here's how it played out...
At 9:55 AM I shut down everything on my computer except Ticketmaster so I would not be distracted or have any type of system slowdown issues. For the next 5 minutes I kept pressing the button that said "Check for Tickets" and then "Back" until tickets went on sale. Once they went on sale I eagerly jumped in and went to select 6 tickets and..... the limit was 4!!!!! I almost had a seizure on the spot. So thinking quickly - Caitlin is home from school (a whole other story) and her laptop happened to be sitting on the table next to mine. Fortunately it was on and only asleep because I think boot up time would have killed me - seriously. So I go to Ticketmaster on her machine ask for 2 tickets and it comes back as "not available." Really by now I am dying because I have gotten the 4 tickets I originally asked for on my laptop. So I try Caitlin's once more while I complete the transaction on mine. This time it comes back with 2 tickets. Now on my PC I have signed into my Ticketmaster account so it has my AmEx number and all the other stuff it needs stored. On Caitlin's I can't do this because they say limit 4 per household so I am thinking I have to use my company credit card so even though it has my same name it has a different address. So with really trembling hands I type all the info in and it says something is wrong with my entry. I do this 2 more times and then realize the clock is ticking - I only have 3:30 minutes to get these paid for or they get released. So in a panic I just used a different credit card but with my same home address. The transaction went through - BUT - I have been told they check for this stuff and that they could potentially cancel both orders if they figure me out. Yikes.... end of story - we wait a few days to see if I get a cancel notice before I start thinking about airfare.
So for now pencil in Saturday night September 6th.... and keep your collective fingers crossed. Next year we may just use a ticket broker - my heart can't take this much excitement!
After tickets have been secured there are many more questions to answer. How long are we staying? How are we getting there? If we fly do we fly out of Cleveland or Akron? Where are we staying? It’s probably cheaper out by the venue but more fun in the heart of the city so what do we do? How many rooms do we need? Can we manage two to a bed or prefer only one? Do we need a rental car? How much is all this going to cost?
Decisions, decisions, decisions but it is so much fun to look forward to!
To be continued ....
